Netflix Cancels Break Point: After Tennis Series Fails To Match “Drive To Survive”

Drive to Survive is credited with a renewed interest in motor racing because of its six very successful seasons on Netflix. Meanwhile, Break Point, a documentary series, has been canceled after two seasons because of its low viewership and limited access to prominent tennis players in comparison to Drive to Survive.

Following the popularity of Drive to Survive, a popular television series, Netflix originally announced the series in January 2022, and everything looked promising. Tennis’s governing authorities came together to support the sport’s television debut, with stars like Nick Kyrgios and Coco Gauff among them in the first season of BreakPoint. The show received a second season renewal in March 2023, and it debuted in January 2024.

Sources claim that producers, who had close access to celebrities both on and off the court for Drive to Survive, were irritated by the red tape they had to jump through to work with the greatest names in tennis. Furthermore, the series omitted one of the biggest stories in tennis history over the past two years: Novak Djokovic’s botched effort to enter the Australian Open after refusing to get the Covid vaccine. According to the publication, this means that unless the second season’s watching numbers drastically increase, the show is not likely to return.

Though Better news for Netflix in addition to Drive to Survive’s sustained success, golf has witnessed a spike in popularity as Full Swing’s cameras focus on the sport’s biggest news story of the continuous dispute seen between both the PGA Tour and LIV circuit.
