Netflix has announced that it would discontinue complete support for older iPhones and iPads in addition to removing support for the third-generation Apple TV.
It is not assured that models like the iPhone X and the original iPad Pro will receive upgrades for the most recent Netflix version because they cannot be updated to iOS 17. A message stating “We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, please install iOS 17 or later” is being displayed to the users using iOS 16.
Netflix users who are still on iOS 16 can choose to disregard this warning and continue using the app, but they will not be receiving any security upgrades, bug fixes, or new features. The app will eventually stop functioning, but neither Apple nor Netflix have said when that will occur.
Due to hardware restrictions, Apple had previously said that certain devices would not receive the iOS 17 update. The iPad 5th Gen, iPad Pro 1st Gen, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X are among the gadgets that are still running iOS 16.
This isn’t the first time Netflix is having issues with Apple as they have a storied history together. Netflix made a big deal of not making a separate app for Apple Vision Pro. Netflix stepped away from working with Apple to create an exclusive app for their Vision Pro. With this latest announcement by Netflix regarding discontinuing support in older Apple devices, only time will tell how this impacts their relationship in the upcoming years.
