Netflix has dropped a short 15 second teaser trailer titled ‘Kingdom: Ashin of The North’ and It. Is. Brilliant. Short, scary, but brilliant. This special one-episode bonus story which will star Gianna Jun is set to come out next year, in 2021.
For those who haven’t heard of Kingdom, it is Netflix’s first South Korean original series. The epic web series just finished releasing it’s second season this year and it has been a hit in the country as well as around the globe. Both seasons have 6 episodes each and the critical hit web-series is said to be slated for a third season next year.
Set in Korea, during its Joseon period, three years after the Japanese invaded Korea, the story focuses on Crown Prince Lee Chang. The Prince stumbles across a threatening political conspiracy when he is investigating the spread of a mysterious plague. The plague, it turns out, seems to bring back the dead as bloodthirsty monsters. He has to race against time to save his people from this mysterious plague as well as save his position against the political forces working against him.
In other words, we are looking at an early 17th century Korean Political thriller in a zombie outbreak plot. It is a story which has never been heard of, but it sounds so brilliant, we wish we had heard of this sooner. The premise itself is unique enough to attract viewers and this special featurette is good enough to turn even more heads.
At the end of season 2, Jun appeared as the enigmatic Ashin. This special episode ‘Kingdom: Ashin of The North’, will move the plot of the series ‘Kingdom’, up North and will delve deeper into the mysterious past of the character along with Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok.
Kingdom series producer and director Kim Sung Hoon will direct the series, while screenwriter Kim Eun Hee will return to pen the script. Watch the teaser trailer down below:
