Daniel Kaluuya is all set to showcase his magic behind the camera through Netflix’s upcoming dystopian sci-fi drama, The Kitchen, starring Kane Robinson. The streaming service has unveiled its official trailer.
Academy Award-winning actor Kaluuya will make his directional debut with the upcoming Netflix project, along with co-director Kibwe Tavares. The film premiered at this year’s BFI London Film Festival, where it met with positive reviews. Currently, it has a ‘fresh’ rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 18 reviews. Let’s see how this score transforms once the film gets a wide streaming release on January 19.
The Kitchen takes place in a dystopian future in London, where there is no place for social housing. At first, Izi (Robinson) decides to leave his residence, The Kitchen, for good. However, he changes after meeting Benji (Jedaiah Bannerman) and eventually becomes an integral part of the fight against the oppressive forces of the outside world. In the film, The Kitchen is a community of people who refuse to abandon their homes.
Both Kaluuya and Tavares commenced the film’s development way back in 2014. The production lasted around nearly four months, from March to June 2022.
Apart from Robinson and Bannerman, The Kitchen stars Hope Ikpoku Jr, Teija Kabs, Demmy Ladipo, Cristale, BackRoad Gee, and many more talents. It marks the feature directional debut of Daniel Kaluuya. In addition, the actor serves as one of the film’s producers alongside Michael Fassbender, who recently appeared in David Fincher’s The Killer. Stay tuned for more updates.
