Netflix has dropped the official teaser of Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Spy Kids: Armageddon’.
Armageddon will be the fifth addition to Rodriguez’s popular spy-comedy franchise, arriving 12 years after ‘All the Time in the World’ (2011). The first three Spy Kids movies are considered cult classics. But we cannot say the same about the 2011 instalment, as it nearly buried the franchise for good, thanks to its rote storyline, lame humour, and poor acting performances by Jessica Alba, Joel McHale, and the rest of the film’s cast.
It seems like Armageddon will be nothing except a modified and more stylish version of the 2001 original film. The basic foundation of the reboot’s story looks pretty much the same: Spy Kids saving their spy parents from the bad guy. Only this time, we have Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez as the parental duo, who are also spies, replacing Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino from the original film. And we have a new leading duo of Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson.
Apart from these guys, the forthcoming reboot also has D. J. Cotrona, Billy Magnussen, and Fabiola Andujar in its cast.
Robert Rodriguez has helmed ‘Armageddon’, apart from penning down its script with Racer Max. The trio of Skydance, Spyglass, and Double R Productions have produced the reboot, with distribution rights being handled by Netflix.
Spy Kids; Armageddon will come out on Netflix on September 22. Stay tuned for more updates.
