Netflix’s upcoming limited series ‘Ripley’ has been whipping up terrific buzz ever since it was announced last year. The series stars stellar British actor Andrew Scott as the mysterious conman Tom Ripley, all the more reason why it is one of the most anticipated series of the year. This evening, Netflix revealed the first teaser for Ripley, along with a release date. All episodes of the 8-part series premieres on Netflix worldwide on 4th April, 2024.
Netflix’s Ripley is a brand new iteration of the much-adapted Tom Ripley novels, written by Patricia Highsmith. The most famous adaptation, of course, is the 1999 movie ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’, starring Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, along with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law as co-leads. Andrew Scott steps into the enigmatic character of Tom Ripley in Netflix’s ‘Ripley’, an altogether exciting proposition for sure.
The story of Ripley centres on the accomplished conman who is hired by a wealthy father to convince his runaway son Dickie (Johnny Flynn) to return home from Italy. As Tom interacts with Dickie, he realises that he loves the glamor of Dickie’s lifestyle and wheedles himself into a more permanent place in his life. However, Dickie’s girlfriend (Dakota Fanning) gradually catches onto Tom’s deception. Tom’s entry into Dickie’s world leads to “a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder,” as per Netflix.
The series is written, directed, and executive produced by Steve Zaillian, Academy Award winning writer of Schindler’s List, The Irishman, Moneyball, The Night Of, among others.
