This evening, Netflix revealed an exciting sizzle reel of all the content it has lined up for release in 2024. As part of the much-hyped reveal, the streaming giant dropped an interesting first look at its upcoming limited series titled ‘Eric’, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead. Netflix has not revealed a release date for Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Eric’ yet, except for the info that the series will release on Netflix worldwide in 2024.
The first look of the accomplished British actor in Eric is intriguing, to say the least. The actor plays father to a nine-year-old boy who goes missing on his way to school one fine morning. Cumberbatch is shown holding a press conference, looking haggard and harried. His equally downcast looking wife sits beside him as he addresses journalists on the crucial matter.
The core of the story of the six-part limited series ‘Eric’ is inventive and promising. Set in 1980s New York, the series features Benedict Cumberbatch as Vincent, a leading New York puppeteer, and creator of the hugely popular children’s television show Good Day Sunshine. When his son Edgar goes missing, he becoming increasingly despondent, distressed and volatile, alienating everyone around him. His only source of hope is his son’s blue monster puppet, Eric. Soon Vincent is convinced that if he can get Eric on TV then Edgar will come home. Eric, a delusion of necessity, becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home.
Eric is written by Abi Morgan, directed by Lucy Forbes and produced by Holly Pullinger. Besides Benedict Cumberbatch, the series stars Gaby Hoffmann, McKinley Belcher III, Dan Fogler, Clarke Peters, Ivan Morris Howe, Phoebe Nicholls, David Denman, Bamar Kane, Adepero Odyue, Alexis Molnar, Roberta Colindrez, Jeff Hephner and Wade Allain-Marcus.
