Netflix Film ‘Jaadugar‘ (transl. Magician), a fusion of surrealism, magic and sports drama released in Hindi, English,Tamil and Telugu languages on 15th July, 2022. It’s been 6 days since the release and the film is already reigning the Netflix trending charts! But does the film deserve it?
Jaadugar has been consistently reigning at #1 since 5 days now. Although the film was met with terrible criticism from critics and lukewarm audience reception online, it seems like lack of a good hindi release this week so far has fuelled the views of the film. Ante Sundaraniki was the only competition for the film which toned down as well since it was already a week plus since its Netflix release. Tovino Thomas-Keerthy Suresh starrer Vaashi and Godse also released last week but both films are not originally in Hindi language. Vaashi is doing really good for itself but after all its a Malayalam language film. Also it seems like Jaadugar’s inclusion of magic and football could have attracted families more towards it. However it is yet to be seen how long Jaadugar will stay in the Netflix India Top 10 charts with such polarised reviews and fresh releases this week.
‘Jaadugar’ is set in a small football obsessed town Neemuch, in Madhya Pradesh. The film follows orphaned Meenu’s life. Meenu’s parents’ untimely death enroute a football match results in him hating the game. Meenu finds solace in magic and eventually grows up aspiring to be one. Meenu has to win the local football tournament with Disha’s father’s team in order to win the hand of Disha in Marriage.
Directed by Sameer Saxena and written by Biswapati Sarkar, Jaadugar is produced under the banner of the new established Production company Posham Pa Pictures. The film stars Jitendra Kumar, Arushi Sharma ans Javed Jaffrey in major roles. After multiple delays, the film finally dropped on Netflix on 15th July. Jaadugar is now streaming on Netflix India.
