A few weeks back, we had apprised our readers about ‘West Side Story’ actor Kyle Allen being cast in the lead role of the primary protagonist He-Man in the much-anticipated live-action ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie at Netflix.
In another exciting revelation (via Screen Rant), the film’s directors Aaron Nee and Adam Nee have spilled the beans about the film’s basic storyline. The filmmaker-brother duo has stated that Netflix’s live-action ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie would focus on the origin story of its titular hero He-Man.
Regarding the film’s origin story treatment and Kyle Allen’s casting, Aaron Nee remarked that ” Yeah, and Kyle’s perfect for it because we also want to take a new audience on this adventure. So we’re treating it as an origin story, and Kyle, there’s not a more perfect person to come in and embody that.”
The film’s underlying premise would revolve around an orphan boy named Adam who realizes that he is a faraway land’s prince and eventually assumes the mantle of the most powerful man in the universe – He-Man. But he must quickly learn to use his enormous powers to defeat his formidable adversary – Skeletor.
However, this is not the first time Netflix has been associated with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise. Previously, the streaming platform had become home to two animated shows namely ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ and ‘She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’.
After making his debut as an action figure toy way back in the early 80s, Mattel’s He-Man and the accompanying ‘Masters of the Universe’ characters came into the global limelight with the toy line-based He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series, which turned out to be one of the most loved shows of the 1980s period.
Aaron Nee and Adam Nee are busy nowadays promoting their forthcoming directorial film ‘The Lost City’, a star-studded venture that features an ensemble cast of the likes of Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt. Their previous directorial credits include the eccentric comedy-drama movie ‘The Last Romantic’ and Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn-based adventure film ‘Band of Robbers’.
