Netflix Finally Renews a Good Show! The Sandman Season 2 Is On!

Netflix’s tryst with Fantasy has been a long journey and ‘The Sandman’ is unarguably one of their most successful outputs. The American fantasy television series based on the 1989-1996 comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics premiered on August 5th, 2022. The show was a huge success and comic-book fans raved about it for days. There have been news about renewal and cancellation of the show on regular intervals and there has been no official call. To the happiness of Sandman fans, the cat is finally out of the bag. The Sandman season two is now officially happening!

The renewal confirmation follows an accidental tweet on Wednesday by DC Comics’ official Twitter account. The tweet was however deleted quickly. It read :

“The dream continues. [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless.”

The news of renewal has been met with exceptionally warm reception on social media with fans going gaga over their favourite show’s return. After disappointing Daredevil fans and Mindhunter fans, for once Netflix has heard fans.

The Sandman follows Dream/Morpheus, the titular Sandman, the personification of dreams and one of the seven Endless, who is captured in an occult ritual in 1916. After being held captive for 106 years, Dream escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming.

In 2013, Warner Bros had planned to adapt The Sandman into a film alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt who was planned to star and direct. Owing to creating differences, the idea for the film fell through and The Sandman landed at Netflix. The series was developed by Gaiman, David S Goyer and Allan Heinberg and is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. The series stars Tom Sturridge as Dream/Morpheus with Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles. Stay tuned for more updates.
