A few hours ago, Netflix released a promotional video for the third season of their ongoing coming-of-age hit web series, ‘Sex Education’, in the form of a parody advertisement Moordale Secondary School (the school which is featured in this web series). This new funny promotional video comes a fortnight after Amazon Prime Video dropped a brilliant (near) 6-minute promo for the third season of their hit Superhero web series, ‘The Boys’, which was in the form of a special news program. Parody promos have been the latest trend among popular TV series lately and they have already proved to be useful – acting as a source of information for an upcoming season for a show. Check out this ‘Sex Education’ promo at the end of this article.
‘The Boys’ promotional video is not a complete parody, but rather an actual news report set in the world of the TV series, which talks about the fallout after the events of season 2. Titled “Vought News Network: Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman”, this promotional video was released on the 7th of July on the YouTube channel, Vought News Network. According to Amazon Prime Video, this video will be part of a video series called “Seven on 7”, which will bridge the gap between the second and third seasons of ‘The Boys’. Each new promo will feature 7 stories and a commercial and they will release on the 7th of every month. Check out the first video of this YouTube “promo/spin-off/set-up series”, down below:
In comparison, Netflix’s new parody ad for ‘Sex Education’ is just that – a parody ad. Although we get a few new subplots in this funny promotional video, it still stays goofy and light-hearted (unlike ‘The Boys’ promo video). We get tons of new information in this show, while our favorite characters can be seen sporting new looks in this advertisement.
There is a new Headmistress in Moordale Secondary School – Hope Haddon, who replaces the old headmaster, Michael Groff. We also get a friendly/funny reminder from Jackson about the time he played Romeo in his school play ‘Romeo & Juliet’ (and also how bad he is at remembering lines). The show also tells us that the students will start to wear uniforms from this season onwards (which we knew from some of the photos that have appeared on social media), the why of it has been left unexplained. Also, Adam Groff returns – with a full set of hair on his head. And fan-favorite Maeve too appears in the video, and she is exactly how you would expect her to be during the advertisement – not wanting to be a part of it. Aimee comes on for two seconds and she manages to make it iconic. Ex-headmaster, Michael Groff makes an appearance at the very end of the ad – which we think means that he will return to the show as well.
The third season of Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’ will premiere on September 17th 2021. Catch the first two seasons on the same streaming platform.
