Streaming behemoth Netflix has given the go-ahead to a series on the life and times of British football great, David Beckham. The series will include multiple seasons, and will document David Beckham’s life story from his childhood to his ascent to football greatness. Netflix hasn’t disclosed the title for the upcoming series yet.

Netflix’s David Beckham series will be made under the aegis of Academy Award-winning talents, Fisher Stevens (The Cove, Palmer) and John Battsek (One Day In September, Searching For Sugar Man). Fisher Stevens will direct the series, while John Battsek will produce it.

David Beckham is one of the most recognised talents in the world of international sport. In making a series on David Beckham, Netflix has a winner on its hands. Netflix’s David Beckham series will chronicle his life from his younger days – his humble East London beginnings, his early experience with grassroots football, which honed his game at the start of his tryst with football, and later, his rise to the top job in England’s national football team.

The Netflix series will feature never-before-seen footage from four decades of Beckham’s life, as well as go behind the scenes to show unseen footage. The series will also feature intimate, one-on-one interviews with Beckham’s fellow players, friends and family. In short, Netflix’s series on David Beckham will offer viewers unparalleled access into the football icon’s life.

David Beckham’s production company, Studio 99, will produce the series for Netflix, along with Battsek’s Ventureland.
