Netflix Has Taken Over This Nonstop Joy Ride From Prime Video!

An absolute joy ride of a film that has been streaming in India on Prime Video will leave the platform today, 24 Dec. And the film from the director of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ has found a new home at Netflix. Yes, we are talking about the over-the-top, gritty and immensely entertaining film ‘The Suicide Squad’.

The movie is a standalone sequel to DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’ and stars an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, and Pete Davidson. In the film, several convicts join a task force known as the “Suicide Squad” in exchange for lighter sentences. They are sent to the South American island nation of Corto Maltese to destroy all traces of the giant alien starfish Starro the Conqueror before it falls into the local government’s control.

The film from the start to the finish has ‘James Gunn’ directorial written over it. How would ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ have ended up had it not been a Disney film? ‘The Suicide Squad’ may be the nearest answer. The film is witty, gloriously dramatic, and visually spectacular with limbs and blood flying all over the place. The movie didn’t do well theatrically courtesy of the COVID pandemic and HBO’s strategy to release it on HBO Max simultaneously with the theatrical release but make no mistake, the movie is a gem. In fact, it was a huge hit on OTT, becoming the most streamed DCEU film on HBO Max at the time of release.

We do get to see some characters like Amanda Walker(Viola Davis) and Harley Quinn(Margot Robbie) return from the first movie, but most of the ensemble are new characters, some so goofy and freaky in the same measure they’ll give Harley a run for her money. While the characters seem to die too early and in big numbers, surprisingly the movie continues on its path unfazed, as engaging as ever.

If you have seen the film before, this is your cue to watch it again. ‘The Suicide Squad’ is one of those movies that doesn’t have a great story to brag about, but you are so engrossed with all that going on that you just don’t care. Another masterfully crafted film by James Gunn, if you like goofy violent films that are thoroughly entertaining, don’t miss this one. It’s one of the few good ones out there.

There’s a fight scene in the film involving Harley Quinn massacring a group of soldiers, with flowers coming out instead of blood. If you ask us, that scene alone is worth watching the film for.
