May is here, and there was a huge expectation from Netflix India in the month of April. Sadly, the films failed us badly, and there were no series at all. We can confidently say that this was a very, very bad month in the recent history of the platform.
Have a look at the offerings of the platform before you go on.
Original Movies
TEST, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins
Licensed Movies
Mad Square, Chhava, Court – A State vs Nobody, Perusu
Analysis
Before we start the analysis of this month, let’s first acknowledge that there was no series this month. Even last year in April, there was no series. Now, we don’t know the enmity between April and Netflix India series, but it is not nice. When people are paying for the most expensive mainstream Indian OTT platform out there, then they are right in assuming certain things. Getting at least 1 series per month is not a unrealsitic expectation.
Now let’s come to the original films. There were two original films last month. Namely, TEST and Jewel Thief.
Both of them can compete in “Who’s worse?”
Both of them are absolutely bad films with a big cast and no value. Neither do they entertain nor do they have any value. They are just bad films. Sadly, there was no option to watch, and they got views. But it still doesn’t justify how bad those films were.
Coming to licensed movies, Mad Square got a very good reception given its popularity in the theatres. The face value of the previous film also helped a lot in pushing Mad Square.
Chhava is a huge blockbuster, but it is an utter disappointment on Netflix India. We won’t say that the movie flopped on Netflix but it certainly deserved a way bigger reception than what it received.
Coming to Perusu and Court, both of them got a really good response. They were enjoyed by people, and the view count was way better than that of Chhava.
Overall, this month was an utter failure for Netflix India. There was no series, and the original films were just too bad. Had it not been for the three South Indian licensed films then the platform would have gotten nightmares by the dullness of April 2025.
It doesn’t deserve anything more than 3/10 in the last month.
