Netflix India Brought Password Crackdown…Why Not Ads?

Remember, Binged informed its readers about password-sharing rules not becoming applicable in India anytime soon?

Well, the news is just two months old as Monika Shergill, the content chief of Netflix India, shared her roadmap for success in India.

During the conversation with Variety, Monika Shergill said: “There are currently no plans for an ad-supported tier in India.”

Well, Netflix India has stuck to those words, and there are no plans whatsoever for an ad-supported tier in India.

But the password crackdown has been implemented. Disney+Hotstar is already following Netflix India, and there might be more platforms to join the rat race.

However, if you remember the dramatic arrival of password crackdown and ad-supported plans globally, Netflix introduced those features simultaneously.

Sadly, for India, there are no cheaper plans introduced with ads, but there is certainly the sword of password crackdown hanging.

So, Indians got only the bad part of the whole Netflix revamp strategy. Also, Indians are more than habituated to seeing ads (although not a great thing) on OTT platforms.

Seeing a cheaper ad-supported plan, without removing the basic ad-less 149₹ plan, would attract a lot of people.

Alas! Nothing as such is in sight. The question is, when will India get a full-fledged Netflix revamp?
