Netflix India has cut its price in order to attract the Indian audience. It is quite evident that Netflix India is not firmly established. It is still struggling to match up with its rivals such as Prime Video or Disney+Hotstar.
A big reason behind this was that the other platforms have some added benefits apart from streaming. Like prime video gives us free delivery whenever we order from Amazon. Also, they get a subscription to Prime Music and priority customer support from Amazon.
Similarly, the customers of Disney+ Hotstar get to watch IPL for free plus they have huge Indian content. Unfortunately, Netflix India does not offer any other benefit.
So, will the new plan work? To know this let’s have a look at the plan first.
Earlier the mobile plan used to be 199/month. Similarly basic plan standard plan and premium plan used to be 499/month 649/month 799/month.
If we look at the competition then Amazon Prime’s membership starts at 129/month, Disney+Hotstar’s annual subscription starts from only Rs 899 annually.
But, both Prime Video and Disney+Hotstar allow users to stream in at least FHD (1080P) if the content allows. This is not the same with Netflix India. To stream in FHD, you will have to spend at least 499/month which is still extremely expensive when it comes to competition.
Even though the cheapest Netflix plan is costlier than any of its competition, you get to stream only in 480P without any added benefit. And according to the standards of 2021, 480P resolution is least wanted. At least 720P would have made any sense but ALAS!!
Even the new Netflix India plans are not as attractive as we were hoping for. India is a very price-competitive market and Netflix is taking a long time to understand that.
