February was a sparkling month at Netflix India. There were too many big releases but something was lost in all that sparkle. It was viewed, as the success of all those titles that never happened.
Now, it is not as if there weren’t any big releases last month. It is just that they somehow failed to attract the attention of the audience. So we can draw a metaphor and say that February was so bright that people couldn’t really see and determine what to watch on Netflix.
Important Films
Cirkus, Waltair Veerayya, Thunivu, Vadh
Important Series
Class, The Romantics
Analysis
Cirkus in the name of commercial cinema is nothing but a punishment to those who dared to watch it. The film is a massive failure and so it deserved to be.
Thunivu as well is hardly much better. It is a massive commercial success but not a film that non-fans of Ajith Kumar can ever like. Waltair Veerayya yet again is a highly flawed film dipped in the flavor of mass entertainment.
Vadh on the other hand is a really good film and the audience must be repenting of rejecting it in the theaters.
But even after one great film and so many superstars, there is not one big success that Netflix can vouch for. Those films failed to garner great views and emerged as mediocre films on Netflix.
Talking about the series then Class did a decent job. Not only is it a well-made series but it was received well by a certain section of the audience as well.
Let’s talk about The Romantics. If a documentary is made on the history of Indian documentaries then The Romantics will be a mammoth name. It brings all three Khans, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh and so many more.
It was heavily promoted and there were indeed prospects of the documentary doing exceptionally well on the platform. Mind you doing well means at least coming in the Top 10 most-watched series in the world. The series did not even enter the list let alone register any significant achievement.
So overall, the month was indebted to Netflix. They delivered or at least tried to deliver massy content to the audience but the audience didn’t show any great enthusiasm.
To the overall performance of Netflix India, we can give them a score of 6 out of 10.
