Netflix India today released infinitely interesting information for fans of its digital content. The streaming giant is poised to release a bouquet of four Indian Original films in the coming year.
In recent times, Netflix US has achieved groundbreaking success with its Netflix Original Movies slate. The Irishman, Marriage Story, Dolemite Is My Name, The Two Popes, Always Be My Maybe, are some of the names that became very popular offerings.
Sadly, Netflix India lags woefully behind. Other than Lust Stories, which was also a marginal success, none of its other original movies have really made the cut. Chopsticks, Drive, House Arrest, and the recent Ghost Stories, all have been colossal failures.
All that may be about to change, with Netflix India announcing four new Original Movies to be released this year.
The first is called Choked, to be made by Anurag Kashyap, and starring Saiyami Kher and Roshan Mathew.
Next is Vikramaditya Motwane’s AK vs AK, featuring ever young Anil Kapoor and ever angry Anurag Kashyap. Yes, you read right, that is the AK vs AK the movie’s going to focus on.
Then there’s Dibakar Banerjee’s Freedom, headlined by Naseeruddin Shah, Manisha Koirala, Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin, Divya Dutta, Zoya Husain, Shashank Arora and Neeraj Kabi.
Last is an anthology of 4 films, produced by Karan Johar. It will star Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul, Nusrat Bharucha, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Jaideep Ahlawat.
Well, that really seems to be quite an interesting lineup for the year. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating. So let’s see how the end products turn out to be.
