The Netflix top 10 films and series list is back with some additions, omissions, and some interesting changes in ranks. For instance, the first two ‘The Kissing Booth’ teen rom-com trilogy films are missing from the list this week while the latest one has moved down to the fifth spot.
Whereas the coveted top spot is bagged by ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Aquaman’ hunk Jason Momoa’s revenge thriller ‘Sweet Girl‘. The film started streaming from 20th August and centers around a husband who ostensibly makes it his mission to bring justice to those responsible for his wife’s death. While doing that, he must protect his only family left – his daughter.
The spin-off film of the Fast and Furious franchise ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Idris Elba which held the last week’s top spot on the movies list, is now in second place. The fact that that ‘F9’ is slated to soon release in cinemas in India, is still keeping the buzz around the franchise ignited.
Like previous week’s list, the star-studded Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’ and surrogacy drama ‘Mimi’ starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi are still holding the fort on the third and fourth spots, respectively. Similarly, the mystery thriller ‘Haseen Dillruba’ starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey has retained its place on the list which proves that OTT audiences are all game for decent and original content.
On the TV shows front, it seems that the recently released ‘Comedy Premium League’ has grabbed the attention of Indian OTT viewers. The Netflix show features sixteen comedians divided into different teams and they compete in a battle of wits to become the ultimate comedy champions. The show also features Anurag Kashyap in a special appearance. In these distressing times, we need more entertaining shows like this.
‘Sex/Life’ has retained its previous week’s second rank and the gripping medical drama ‘The Good Doctor’ has moved up one place to the third spot. While last week’s top-ranked revenge thriller series ‘Hit & Run’ is in fifth place now.
In a similar fashion, K-drama ‘Nevertheless’, the inimitable heist thriller ‘Money Heist’, the engaging comedy-drama ‘Never Have I Ever’, and the evergreen cult show ‘Friends’ are still trending on Netflix and have marked their presence on the top 10 series list. Volume-1 of the fifth and final part of ‘Money Heist’ is slated to start streaming from 3rd September, so the buzz around the title is consistently high.
Another addition on this list this week is the teenage drama ‘Riverdale’ which is based on the immensely popular Archie comics. It was reported just a few days back that ‘Gully Boy’ director Zoya Akhtar will also be reportedly adapting hit Archie comics in a Netflix original film that will ostensibly feature Amitabh Bachchan‘s grandson Agastya Nanda, Shah Rukh Khan‘s daughter Suhana Khan and Boney Kapoor, and Sridevi‘s second daughter, Khushi Kapoor. That might have piqued interest for this title. Moreover, the weekly episodes of ‘Riverdale’ fifth season are already streaming on Netflix.
