Netflix India’s Top 10 Films & Series to Watch in the 2nd May Week

For Netflix India’s top ten films list, the top-ranked title has been bagged by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest directorial ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role. While on the second and the third spots on the list are the Polish erotic thriller ‘365 Days: This Day’ and Taapsee Pannu starrer comedy thriller movie ‘Mishan Impossible’.

On the Netflix top ten TV shows front, this week’s top spot is held by the riveting revenge drama ‘Mai’ starring Sakshi Tanwar in the titular role. And the second and the third spots are bagged by the crime drama show ‘Ozark’ and the period drama series ‘Bridgerton’, respectively.

10. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

A sequel to the 1980s Ghostbuster movies and set 32 years after the events of the second film, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ revolves around how a single mother and her two children relocate to a wrecked house in a small town in Oklahoma. There, the kids learn about their connection with the Ghostbusters and about their grandfather’s secret.

9. Sooryavanshi

Sooryavanshi is the fourth movie that belongs to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe film series comprising Singham and Simmba films. Sooryavanshi revolves around the titular cop DCP Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), who heads the Anti-Terrorism Squad, and his attempt to avert a terrorist attack in Mumbai. The film also features Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Jackie Shroff in important roles.

8. 365 Days

The Polish erotic thriller follows a professionally successful woman named Laura albeit with unexciting love life. During a trip to Sicily, the handsome Sicilian mafia family boss Massimo Torricelli imprisons Laura and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him.

7. Silverton Siege

The South African film follows three anti-apartheid freedom fighters who take shelter inside a bank in Silverton after an unsuccessful sabotage mission. They realize that one of them is a spy. That’s when they decide to take the bank customers hostage and negotiate for Nelson Mandela’s release.

6. Badhaai Do

Helmed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni, the comedy-drama film revolves around a policeman Shardul Thakur (Rajkummar Rao), and a physical education teacher Sumi Singh (Bhumi Pednekar), and their marriage of convenience to hide their sexual orientation. But things do not go as smoothly as they had expected.

5. 83

The film is about the Indian cricket team’s historic victory at the 1983 cricket world cup. Ranveer Singh essays the role of the Indian cricket team’s legendary captain Kapil Dev, and the film portrays his and his teammates’ incredible journey from being an underdog team to lifting the world cup by beating the formidable West Indians at the Lords Cricket Ground on 25th June 1983.

4. Dasvi

Helmed by Tushar Jalota in his directorial debut, the social comedy-drama film features Abhishek Bachchan in the role of powerful Jaat politician Gangaram Chaudhary. He is sent behind bars for an alleged teacher recruitment scam and makes his wife (Nimrat Kaur) the new CM. In jail, he has an ego clash with the upright jailor (Yami Gautam). Now the eighth pass politician must prove his mettle and pass the tenth-class exam while learning valuable lessons along the way.

3. Mishan Impossible

The film is a comedy thriller whose story revolves around three young boys named Raghupati, Raghava, and Raja Ram who undertake a mission to track India’s most wanted person Dawood Ibrahim for the prize money of Rs. 50 lakhs. While an investigative journalist Shailaja (Taapsee Pannu), who is on a mission to crack a child trafficking racket crosses paths with them. The film has been directed by Swaroop Rsj, of ‘Agent Sai Srinivasa’ fame.

2. 365 Days: This Day

It’s a Polish erotic thriller, a sequel to the 2020 film ‘365 Days’ and based on the book ‘This Day’. Michele Morrone and Anna-Maria Sieklucka reprise their roles as Massimo and Laura. The plot revolves around the duo’s evolving relationship and things take an interesting turn when a mysterious man enters their lives.

1. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is somewhat based on Hussain Zaidi’s 2011 non-fiction crime novel ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ (a chapter). The film follows the story of a woman named Ganga Harjivandas from Kathiawad who belongs to a wealthy family. But, after being sold to a brothel in Kamathipura, she eventually transforms into a formidable power to reckon with and becomes a madame in a red-light area.

10. Happiness

It’s a South Korean apocalyptic thriller set in the near future. Special Operation Unit police squad member Yoon Sae-bom moves into her new apartment with her high school friend and detective Jung Yi-hyun. However, her happiness is short-lived after the outbreak of an infectious disease that results in her apartment getting sealed off. Now, the residents must learn to trust each other in order to survive the pandemic.

9. Friends

‘Friends’ is a universally acclaimed sitcom show that revolves around the six friends played by Jennifer Anniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry living together in New York City and the vicissitudes in their inter-personal relationships formed the show’s central theme.

8. Falling Into Your Smile

Set against the backdrop of competitive e-sports, the show’s plot follows a skilled gamer Tong Yao, who bags a spot as the only female member in the all-male ZDGX e-sports team led by Lu Si Cheng. Thereafter, the two form a relationship with each other.

7. Anatomy of a Scandal

Based on Sarah Vaughan’s book of the same name, the opening season of the British anthology series revolves around Sophie (Sienna Miller), the wife of a parliamentary minister James Whitehouse (Rupert Friend). But Sophie’s privileged life is turned upside down when her husband is accused of sexual assault and is taken to court.

6. All of Us Are Dead

Based on the webtoon ‘Now at Our School’, it’s a South Korean show where high school students are forced to fight a zombie outbreak in a battle for survival, in order to avoid becoming the infected creatures themselves. Killing or getting killed are the only two options left for them.

5. Business Proposal

The South Korean show follows the story of a woman named Shin Ha-ri, who goes out on a blind date instead of her unwilling friend. However, by a twist of fate, the prospective partner she meets turns out to be the CEO of the company where she works.

4. The Marked Heart

When Simon’s wife is murdered and her heart is transplanted to an affluent woman named Camila, he makes it his mission to avenge his wife’s death from the organization responsible for it. This leads him into the dangerous world of human trafficking. However, by a twist of fate, he also falls in love with the heart receiver – Camila.

3. Bridgerton

Based on Julia Quinn’s novels and set amidst the backdrop of Regency-era London, the show follows the lives of eight siblings who belong to the rich and influential Bridgerton family and their quest to find love in the high society of London.

2. Ozark

The crime drama series features Jason Bateman as a Chicago-based financial advisor and also stars Laura Linney as Bateman’s wife. The Primetime Emmy award-winning show’s underlying plot follows a family with kids who relocate to the Ozarks in Missouri for money laundering activities.

1. Mai

The six-part revenge drama revolves around a submissive and mild-mannered middle-class mother (Sakshi Tanwar), who investigates the mysterious death of her mute daughter (Wamiqa Gabbi). While doing that, she accidentally kills a powerful man. Thereafter, she must survive the ruthless world of crime, corruption, and dirty politics in order to find the truth. The show also features Raimi Sen, Vivek Mushran, Prashant Narayanan, and Seema Pahwa in important roles.
