Netflix India’s Top 10 Films & Series to Watch in the 9th August Week

The most-watched films and series list on the Netflix India OTT platform is back with some exciting additions. On the movies front, the star-studded anthology ‘Navarasa’ has bagged the coveted top spot on the list.

While Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi starrer acclaimed social drama ‘Mimi’ has moved from last week’s first rank to the still impressive second spot. Moreover, in a pleasant surprise for Taapsee Pannu and thriller genre fans, ‘Haseen Dillruba’ has managed to move up one place to the third rank. And Sony Pictures’ animated film ‘Vivo’ has also found a place on the list.

As far as TV shows are concerned, the recently released series ‘Hit & Run’ is currently placed on rank one on the list. Last week’s top ranker ‘Feels Like Ishq’ has moved down to the second spot apparently because of the above-mentioned new addition. TOP 10 MOVIES ON NETFLIX INDIA THIS WEEK

10. Pacific Rim

On the tenth spot is Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 sci-fi action spectacle starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi. The film revolves around the war between Earth inhabitants and the formidable inter-dimensional sea monsters called Kaiju.

9. Aftermath

Parts of this mystery horror film are reportedly based on a true crime story. The story follows a married couple who moves to a new home where they are startled by some disturbing events.

8. Constantine

Like last week, the Keanu Reeves’ starrer film has retained its place on the list although it has jumped down from second place to the eighth spot. The supernatural film was adapted from a DC Comic book with Reeves playing the titular role of an exorcist who helps a female cop to unravel the mystery behind her sister’s death.

7. The Swarm

The French fantasy drama film is about a single mother’s attempt to avoid bankruptcy by starting a business of breeding edible grasshoppers. Although selected for Cannes screening, many critics thought that the film was overrated.

6. Vivo

Sony’s first foray into the musical animated film space, ‘Vivo’ follows the story of Ciba-based Andres and the titular kinkajou (rainforest honey bear) and their common love for music. The plot takes an interesting turn when, after a tragic incident, Vivo travels to a far-off place (Miami) to deliver a love song for his friend.

5. The Last Mercenary

This French action-comedy film has found takers particularly from fans of the popular 90s action star Jean-Claude Van Damme who had earlier featured in films like ‘Kickboxer’ and ‘Universal Soldier’. The film follows an ex-secret service agent who goes back to France to rescue his wrongly accused son.

4. The 2nd

There seems to be no apparent reason as to why this 2020 action thriller film featuring Ryan Phillippe and Casper Van Dien made it to the list. It follows a delta team leader who intervenes in a kidnapping plot against his son’s crush, who happens to be the daughter of a Supreme Court justice.

3. Haseen Dillruba

This intriguing murder mystery starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey still manages to capture the hearts of the OTT audiences even after five weeks of its release. The movie’s interesting story with its twists and turns to keep you in suspense till the last scene.

2. Mimi

The endearing story that revolves around the sensitive subject of surrogacy and has been handled well in a humorous tone by the makers. It features some fine performance by Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi, and the talented supporting cast members.

1. Navarasa

Mani Ratnam’s highly anticipated anthology with nine standalone stories featuring an ensemble cast and helmed by eminent filmmakers has unsurprisingly bagged the top spot on this list. ‘Navarasa’ was earlier tagged as ‘TV Series’ by Netflix but it seems that the streaming giant has now changed the format to ‘Film’ now.

10. Lucifer

The fantasy drama series that revolves around the titular character’s (The Devil) life on Earth has had a successful five-season run until now and is all geared up for its sixth and final season which is slated to release this September and hence the consistent hype nowadays.

9. Top Secret UFO Projects: Declassified

This docuseries, as the name suggests, focusses on the claims of UFO sightings, alien encounters, conspiracy theories, and the alleged secrets relating to them.

8. Nevertheless

It’s a Korean romantic drama that features the relationship between a woman who does not believe in love and a flirtatious man who does not want to commit and how the unlike pair gets involved in a romantic relationship.

7. Friends

This evergreen feel-good cult comedy series never has a problem in finding OTT audiences. It has become a regular feature on the list of Netflix India’s Top 10. The show revolves around the story of a group of six friends and how they deal with their interpersonal relationships and professional lives.

6. Money Heist

Money Heist has moved up from eighth place to the sixth spot this week. With the announcement of the Season 5 release date, the hype could not be greater for this deftly made series. The basic premise of the show revolves around a group of talented robbers and their attempts to execute seemingly impossible heist under the supervision of their mastermind The Professor. The fifth installment of the series is scheduled to start streaming from 3rd September.

5. Never Have I Ever

The comedy-drama series is still trending on Netflix and rightfully so. The second season started streaming from 15th July. The new season further explores the Indian American high school student Devi’s story and how she deals with her school life and personal relationships and is wittier, funnier, and sharper than the first.

4. The Good Doctor

The series follows an autistic but brilliant surgical resident doctor, who uses his unique skills to solve complex medical cases while dealing with his own personal problems. All the seasons of the acclaimed show are now streaming on Netflix India, which is the reason for the show finding a spot on the Top Ten Shows of the week.

3. Feels Like Ishq

The light-hearted Netflix original anthology of six short stories is two spots down from last week’s top spot. It revolves around the common theme of two strangers meeting and falling in love at first sight. The series has been helmed by six talented directors with an equally proficient cast.

2. Sex/Life

The series centers around a woman whose wild past crashes into her present married-with-kids life, when her ex-boyfriend she can’t stop fantasizing about comes back into her life again.

1. Hit & Run

The series has started streaming from 6th August and our review’s bottom line is: “A Good Revenge Thriller Series That Became Its Own Enemy.” The series has been marked as ‘Good’ on our five-point rating scale. The story follows a hit-and-run accident that kills a woman. His husband tries to find his wife’s killer with the help of his former lover.
