Netflix has entered into a first look deal with Peter Berg’s Film 44 to produce and direct live action films and series. Berg had earlier directed Mark Wahlberg starrer ‘Spenser Confidential’ for Netflix that went on to become one of its most popular films with 85 million members watching the film in the first 4 weeks
Peter Berg is already directing and executive producing all episodes of Netflix’s upcoming limited series ‘Painkiller’, a new scripted drama about the origins of the Purdue Pharma and the opioid epidemic. Berg’s current project under development includes ‘The Colonel’s Wife’ which he will write, direct and produce. He is also directing a feature documentary on Rihanna for Amazon.
About his first-look deal with Netflix, Berg said, “For me, in this moment, Netflix is the perfect creative fit. I could not be more excited to get to work!”
Peter Berg, a director, producer and actor, is a known name in the industry. He has founded Film Forties, a production company specializing in creating scripted, non-scripted and branded entertainment.
Film 44 is Peter’s scripted entertainment banner and through it he has written and directed feature films like ‘The Rundown’ (2003), ‘Friday Night Lights’ (2004), ‘The Kingdom’ (2007), ‘Hancock’ (2008), ‘Battleship’ (2012), ‘Lone Survivor’ (2013), ‘Deepwater Horizon’ (2016), ‘Patriots Day’ (2016), ‘Mile 22’ (2018) and ‘Spenser Confidential’ (2020). ‘Friday Night Lights’ was later adapted for television by Berg himself. Other than these, Berg has also executive produced and directed two acclaimed HBO series, ‘The Leftovers’ and ‘Ballers’.
Through Film 45 which is Berg’s non-scripted entertainment banner, he has done projects that include ‘QB1: Beyond The Lights’ (Netflix), ‘The Keepers’ (Netflix), ‘State of Play’ (HBO), and more. Moreover Berg’s Film 47 is responsible for commercial/branded entertainment projects and his commercial brand clients are the NFL, Verizon, Microsoft, Blue Origin, Ford, Frito Lay and The United States Navy, Air Force, Army and Marines.
