See, being the best at something comes with certain burdens, and Netflix is obviously criticized on certain aspects. Netflix isn’t any less evil than most platforms, but one thing that can’t be taken away from them is that Netflix is definitely a pioneer of the streaming culture.
Now, one of the preliminary strategies adopted by Netflix was to promote binge-watching. It has worked wonders for the platform, especially for its growth. Binge-watching has been a very powerful asset, starting with their first original series, House Of Cards.
But all OTT platforms promote this strategy. Why?
Because some platforms believe that it is better to have a periodical release. Weekly releases are being performed by these platforms. People wait, and people talk about it for a prolonged time, which works as an advertisement for the series and the platform in general.
But this strategy isn’t viable for Netflix. Firstly, their content library is too big, and secondly, the frequency of their releases of original series is usually higher than other platforms. That might result in a clash when it comes to releasing. Plus, this binge-watching format is definitely their prized possession and helps them to stay relevant and give fans what they want.
Talking about the releasing strategy, JioCinema opted for a daily release, which does look like a more viable option for someone like Netflix. It doesn’t seem like they are changing their stance anytime soon.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off creator managed to criticize this Netflix strategy and marked it as ‘the dumbest shit ever’. And as the series is streaming on Netflix, BenDavid Grabinski hasn’t fallen in love with Netflix’s content dump.
See, as a creator, everyone loves that their show stays relevant for a longer period of time. With a competitive platform like Netflix, it becomes a tougher job, but they surely won’t change their release strategy for one series or piece of content.
“As someone who had his whole season drop all at once at the same time, it’s the dumbest sh-t ever. There’s literally no upside. Imagine if the whole season of X-MEN 97 was out.”
Talking about this strategy, though most platforms don’t follow it, Prime Video recently opted for this for their recent ’’Fallout’ series, which again shows that, like it or not, this format works.
