Netflix Is Developing Its First Ever Danish Original Film ‘Loving Adults’

By Binged Bureau - May 06, 2021 @ 06:05 pm

Netflix has announced that it is in the process of developing its first ever Danish original film, ‘Loving Adults’. The feature film will star Borgen and Game Of Thrones star Dar Salim, and Sonja Richter, of Open Hearts fame, as leads. The film is being produced by SF, which also produced Netflix’s first Swedish film ‘Red Dot’ and Swedish series ‘Snabba Cash’.

Nordic content has been creating a lot of buzz in recent times. Global viewers are enamoured by the gorgeous though bleak landscape of Nordic countries that forms a prominent part of Nordic content. Additionally, most Nordic content is edge-of-the-seat thrilling, adding to the fascination it holds for viewers. Netflix has brought tons of shows and movies from Scandinavian countries. However, most of it is content that it licences from third parties. Danish content forms an important part of its licensed content.

Now, after a long time of picking up buzzy Nordic shows and movies for streaming on its platform, Netflix has moved on to producing its own content in the region. Towards this aim, Netflix recently opened its first Nordic hub in Swedish capital Stockholm.

The film ‘Loving Adults’ comes in the wake of the Mads Mikkelsen film ‘Another Round’, which swept the awards for Best International Feature Film at all awards events, including the Oscars. Hence, interest in Loving Adults is high.

Loving Adults is directed by Barbara Rothenborg (White Sand). Is is a dark and twisted thriller, where nothing is what it seems to be. It appears that Christian (Dar Salim) and Leonora (Sonja Richter) have it all. They are living the perfect life with their son, who’s just been declared healthy after a long-term severe illness. Their future finally seems bright, but at a party at Christian’s entrepreneur company, Leonora sees her husband with a younger woman, the architect Xenia (Sus Wilkins). Leonora realises that Christian might leave her. On the spot Leonora makes a decision: She refuses to be the woman who got left behind – by all means necessary.

The film will also star Sus Wilkins, Mikael Birkkjær, Lars Ranthe, Morten Burian, Benjamin Kitter, Karoline Hamm and Natalï Vallespir Sand.

Loving Adults will premiere on Netflix in 2022.
