Leila is the upcoming big Indian series from Netflix. It premieres on the platform on June 14th. With exactly a week to go, the makers have started screening it to select few.
The first three episodes of Leila were shown to the media and selected few others, and the reactions so far are overwhelmingly positive. It needs to be taken with a pinch of salt based on past experiences, but if the talk is really that high, then for sure Leila will turn out to be successful and highly discussed entity.
Leila is dystopian drama set sometime in the future of India. A mother character played by Huma Qureshi is in search of her missing daughter. The whole thing happens in the backdrop of Hinduism. The portrayal has not got down well with ‘The Right’, and they are already in threatening mode.
However, for director Deepa Mehta, it’s the very known territory. Almost all her films have been through to the same scrutiny and noise, and she has braved all those. She is ready for what is to come for Leila as well. Lucky for her, it is on a streaming platform, which means no stalling dramas at cinemas.
