Netflix today unveiled the premiere date for ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’, the second instalment of its popular franchise ‘Khakee’ by acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Pandey. Set to premiere on 20th March only on Netflix, ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ promises to doubles the excitement with more cops, more criminals and more action-packed drama this time.
As conspicuous from the title, this latest part is set in the West Bengal state of India where most prominent spoken language is Bengali. And that pops up the question, wouldn’t it have been great if Netflix India made ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ in Bengali as the first language and maybe dubbed it in other languages including Hindi?
Not only would this have made it Netflix India’s first Bengali series, further expanding its reach, but also added more authenticity and credibility to the show.
Undoubtedly there will be numerous dialogues in the show in Bengali which will be dubbed or provided with subtitles but that does not serve the overall purpose.
Probably Netflix India isn’t yet ready to extend its expanse into the said territory and is rather playing safe by calling ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ a Hindi series. This helps the streaming giant capture a larger Hindi speaking audience base across the country including Bengal where Hindi is well understood and widely spoken.
