Amidst the controversy surrounding allegations that Meta allowed Netflix access to users’ direct messages on its platform, Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, has strongly refuted these claims.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Stone emphasized that the accusations were “shockingly untrue.” He clarified that Meta did not share people’s private messages with Netflix. Instead, Stone explained that the agreement between Meta and Netflix allowed users to send messages to their Facebook friends about what they were watching on Netflix, directly from the Netflix app.
Stone further noted that such agreements are common in the industry, implying that it is a standard practice for companies to collaborate in this manner.
This statement from Meta’s communications director contradicts the allegations made in the recent court documents, which accused Meta of providing Netflix with access to users’ messaging inboxes through a private API. Shocking if it is indeed true.
But you know the reality of such cases. They will use loopholes and cover the evidences if something of this sort has actually happened. It is very difficult if not completely impossible for common users to ever know the truth.
