Netflix has given the nod to a new animated series featuring the beloved Angry Birds. The move is a step by the streaming giant to capture the nascent kids content market. The series, when it premieres, will be a noteworthy addition to Netflix’s burgeoning slate of animated features.
The Angry Birds series will have all the favourite birdie characters Red, Chuck, Bomb, Matilda, The Blues (Jay, Jake and Jim), Hal, Stella, Terence and Bubbles, playing tweens at a summer camp. The Mighty Eagle will play a crucial part in the extended series. It will be the camp counselor, guiding the Angry Birds at camp. The series is slated to have 40 episodes, each with a run time of 11 minutes approximately.
Said Curtis Lelash, director of original animated series at Netflix about the upcoming series, “Angry Birds have been a true phenomenon for kids around the world and we’re excited to bring them home to the nest at Netflix where they will be angrier and bird-ier than ever.”
Netflix will produce Summer Madness in conjunction with Rovio, owners and creators of the Angry Birds franchise, and production studio, CAKE.
In a statement to the media, Rovio CEO Ville Heijari said, “Angry Birds animated content plays a key role in our long-term franchise strategy. After more than a decade in hit games, blockbuster movies and licensed products, this is the Angry Birds’ first foray into a longform series. We’re delighted to continue our partnership with CAKE and can’t wait to unveil the world of Angry Birds: Summer Madness to viewers on Netflix.”
Angry Birds: Summer Madness will premiere on Netflix in 2021. Watch this space at Binged.com for more information on the new series.
