Netflix Original Films Are Losing Popularity; The Data Shows It

As soon as Netflix tried to step into streaming services, it realized the fickle nature of licensed films. To curb that, it stepped into making originals and now they have 4-5 originals coming up every week in the form of films, series, and what not.

Series demand time so a lot of people just prefer watching movies. And Netflix films are a big deal. People do indeed care to watch movies that usually offer decent content.

But lately, we have observed something that Netflix wouldn’t wanna tell you. The popularity of their films is decreasing. And it is not just a statement out of the blue. But a series of observations that we made through the weekly Netflix charts.

The views on Netflix are constantly dropping. Mind you that we are talking specifically about the English films on Netflix.

Last week, the most viewed English film on Netflix had only 35,500,000 hours of views. Two weeks ago, a film as big as Luther: The Fallen Sun had only 7,530,000 hours of views.

The Pale Blue Eyes, released earlier this year had a star as big as Christian Bale but it couldn’t leave any impressive mark on the Netflix charts.

Around a year back, these numbers could touch 55,940,000 even for a mediocre film like Senior Year.

So what is happening? Are people getting bored of Netflix content?

This may be an effect of subscriber loss but we can’t really be sure. A boost to non-English content can also be a big reason. Lately we have seen many non-English shows/films reaping good views on the platform. They may be digressing views from the English films.

However, Netflix must realize and work upon this slight fall in the popularity of their films.
