Netflix Plans To Spend More On Licensed Shows After ‘Suits’ Success

Although the ninth and final season of ‘Suits’ concluded in the year 2019, yet the legal drama series went on a record-breaking spree on the Nielsen streaming top ten list and found renewed popularity among OTT viewers. This happened after the widely admired show started streaming on Netflix in the month of July earlier this year. ‘Suits’ undoubtedly proved to be an outstanding success for Netflix for a licensed title.

Following the massive streaming success of ‘Suits’ on Netflix, the big shot streaming company has expressed its intentions to focus more and increase its spending on acquiring licensed titles in the near future. And the decision makes complete sense considering the incredible ‘Suits’ effect and the massive response it got.

During its Quarter-3 2023 earnings call yesterday, Netflix said that they may have increased opportunities to get hold of hit licensed titles in addition to its original programming content. And adding more licensed titles will certainly be a more value for money proposition for existing and prospective Netflix subscribers.

Although acquisition of third-party content by Netflix has earned good dividends to the streaming company in the past, it looks like the OTT giant will now focus more on the acquisition strategy after the success of ‘Suits’. The strategy would also help Netflix to diversify the content on their streaming platform so that there is something for everything and in order to stay ahead of the cut-throat competition from rival OTT platforms.

Coming back to ‘Suits’, the show’s underlying plot revolves around how a gifted college dropout Mike Ross lands a job with a successful New York based lawyer Harvey Specter. In India, all nine seasons of ‘Suits’ are streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Jio Cinema OTT platforms.
