A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that the first-ever Malayalam superhero film, Minnal Murali, will release directly for streaming on Netflix. A few days later, Netflix created a page for Minnal Murali on Netflix and wrote a small synopsis about the upcoming film. And now, Netflix has dropped the film poster as well as the teaser for this upcoming superhero flick. Check the link to the page, at the end of this article.
Much of the film is still shrouded in mystery. So here’s what we do know: Tovino Thomas will be the film lead who will portray a tailor in the fictional village of Kurukkanmoola. He gets struck by lightning and gets superpowers. And that’s pretty much it. We do not know anything else about the movie or when it is even going to premiere on Netflix.
Still, with the update to the Minnal Murali page, we know that Netflix is getting closer to giving us a proper release date. Since the film only completed post-production earlier this month, we expect Netflix’s Quality Control (QC) team are currently combing through the film for irregularities as well as checking its English subtitles. Also, since the movie is expected to release in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi (besides the Malayalam original), we think that the dubbing process for Minnal Murali is currently ongoing – hence the delay in the release date announcement.
The film producers and crew has undergone a lot for the sake of the film. A movie set worth 50 Lakh rupees was destroyed by right-wing nationalists, which had to be remade. A new replacement film location was scouted and then filming got delayed when the new location became a containment zone. So waiting a few weeks for the movie to release is the least we can do. Even if it is getting hard.
