After super English successes in the form of The Crown and Sex Education, Netflix has decided to bet big on original content from UK. With that in mind, the streaming giant has announced seven new original projects in the UK. All the seven will be completely created in the UK, from the screenplay, to direction and production. The seven series will straddle diverse genres such as romance, comedy, sci-fi and horror.
Several British series for Netflix’s content library are already in various stages of production. They are Top Boy S2, Sex Education S3, The Crown S5, After Life S3, Stay Close, Anatomy of a Scandal and The Last Bus. The seven new Netflix-commissioned series come from big names and prolific talent, including the likes of Sam Mendes, Rowan Atkinson and Richard Gadd. All seven new series will also be filmed in the UK including the South West, Wales and in the North of England.
The seven new projects are:
1. Baby Reindeer – written by and starring Richard Gadd (Sex Education writer), and produced by Clerkenwell Films
2. Half Bad – written by Joe Barton, celebrated writer of Giri/Haji and Humans. Barton is also executive producing the series, along with noted names, Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish and Will Tennant. It is being produced by Imaginarium Productions.
3. Man vs Bee – created by and starring the celebrated actor-creator Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean), co-created and executive produced by Will Davies (How to Train Your Dragon), and Chris Clark (All the Money in the World), and produced by HouseSitter Productions
4. Cuckoo Song – written by noted writer Sarah Dollard (Bridgerton, Doctor Who), Andrea Gibb (Dear Frankie) and Corinna Faith (The Innocents), and produced by Catalyst Global Media, along with Doghouse Pictures
5. The Red Zone – written by Barney Ronay and Jonathan Liew, produced by Neal Street Productions and executive produced by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris and Nicolas Brown.
6. Lockwood & Co – written and directed by Joe Cornish (Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn), produced by Complete Fiction and executive produced by Nira Park, Rachael Prior, and Joe Cornish
7.The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – written by Sophie Petzal, produced by House Productions and executive produced by Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross and Sophie Petzal
