The love-hate relationship between Netflix and the fans is ongoing, a race till eternity. Though Newton’s third law of motion is applied in physics, in real life, sometimes some actions have a more intense reaction. And this time, in no unexpected manner, Netflix is at the core of the fans’ ire.
See, Netflix is a champion when it comes to canceling shows. And it did collect some reputations regarding this, but fans aren’t just angry because of what show they canceled, but now, it is a matter of HOW?
The usage of algorithms, machine learning, or AI is one aspect that will grow more and more in the industry. And it isn’t fundamentally bad, especially when it comes to websites and apps recommending shows. But the fans are upset about how Netflix cancels a show based on an algorithm.
Talking about the current decision, it was reported that Netflix canceled a rumored sequel of Heath Ledger’s “A Knight’s Tale.” Based on the quality, it isn’t the best of films, but it is one of those classics which people will definitely tune into. But there lies certain inconsistencies about the cancellation of projects.
For a company like Netflix, it is definitely intelligent to take calculated steps, especially when it comes to production. So having some algorithm is obviously a plus point, but as the fans notice, it is extremely inconsistent.
Shows like “1899” or “Black Summer,” despite the quality of the shows, were adored by fans. Even canceling something like “The Bastard Son” & “The Devil Himself” or “Mindhunter,” fans are pissed and upset about these random choices of cancellation. And amidst all these, some borderline unwatchable shows are getting great advertisement campaigns, and the fans have to suffer through them.
