Netflix series ‘Rana Naidu’, which is an Indian adaptation of the crime drama series ‘Ray Donovan’, has been renewed for a second season. After the release of the show’s first season on Netflix, ‘Rana Naidu’ irked a sizeable segment of people owing to the generous use of cuss words, abuses, and sex-related content.
The backlash ‘Rana Naidu’ Season-1 received led to speculations and reports that the makers were planning to tone down the aforementioned elements for the second season. Some of the critics too did not mince any words to criticize certain aspects of the show. However, the performances, screen presence and the chemistry between the two lead actors were appreciated by many.
Following the release of ‘Rana Naidu S1’, talks about censorship and regulation of OTT platforms also began to resurface. So, it’s prudent for the makers to think about mellowing down the above-mentioned elements from the show’s second season to increase the audience base and to avoid unnecessary controversy.
Having said that, despite the backlash, ‘Rana Naidu’ Season-1 became an immensely popular show on Netflix and turned out to be a massive hit in terms of the viewing stats. After Season-1 came out, the show had consistently been trending amongst the top ten Netflix charts as per the OTT platform. Moreover, in the recently held earnings call, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos even mentioned ‘Rana Naidu’ and called it as a great show that the people are loving all over the country.
‘Rana Naidu’ features Rana Daggubati and his real-life uncle and veteran actor Venkatesh Daggubati in the lead roles of an estranged father-son duo. The titular character played by the former is the go-to guy for all Bollywood related problems. But Rana Naidu lands in a fix and all hell breaks loose when his father is unexpectedly released from the prison. ‘Rana Naidu’ Season-1 was directed by Karan Anshuman (‘Mirzapur’ creator) and Suparn Verma (Co-director – ‘The Family Man’ S2).
