Netflix South India has been having a bad 2021 so far. The OTT platform’s QC team (Quality Control) has been constantly under fire for its handling of subtitles in multiple South-Indian Netflix releases. Nearly a month ago, the Dhanush starrer ‘Jagame Thandhiram‘ premiered worldwide on Netflix, which received mixed-to-negative reviews. This helped other streaming platforms – ZEE5 and Amazon Prime Video to have a better foothold in South Indian content. And now, the official Twitter account of Netflix South India has made a huge blunder of a Telugu tweet online – a Telugu tweet which apparently doesn’t sound Telugu at all. Check out the Tweet below:
If you check this initial thread, you can make out that this tweet was made a few days ago on an online thread made by the official Netflix India account, where this account was formally welcoming the account into the “Netflix Family”. Unfortunately, this released Tweet was made in poor taste and the Telugu community has been in an uproar about it for the past few days. We are actually surprised that Netflix India hasn’t come forward to mediate as the online Telugu Twitter community has started having a go at this new Twitter account – with some epic trolling. Check some of it down below:
Many among the Telugu community have felt that this new Netflix South India account should just rename itself to Netflix Tamil, due to the Tweets that have followed. The handler of this account seems to be a Tamilian who doesn’t know any other South-Indian language and he/ she seems to not have done their homework when it comes to releasing tweets, with the tweets given below being pretty good indicators about how they have been doing their job wrong:
We understand Netflix India’s initiative in wanting to create a deeper connection with their South Indian subscriber base. But when something as simple as a tweet does not get ” quality checked” before it is dropped on the social media platform – it becomes the first step for the OTT platform to alienate the very subscriber base that they are hoping to create a positive bond with.
