Netflix Starts Action On Password Sharing; Same Plan In Disguise!

The last two weeks were funny in the case of Netflix. They announced new measures on password sharing. Then they were brutally trolled. As a consequence, they backed off from the said action by saying that the rules were posted by mistake.

Well, people accepted it anyway. But now, they are rolling out new actions on password sharing without any prior notice. Also, the basic premise of those actions remains the same, ie to use location for setting “primary location” and charge extra bucks for those who are sharing it outside their household.

Interestingly, the new post by Netflix is highly ambiguous. It doesn’t give any details about how the actions on password sharing will work. They are saying that users who are traveling can also use their Netflix account in hotel rooms etc.

But there isn’t any focus on details. Regardless, the subscribers of Standard and Premium plans can add extra members to their accounts by paying an extra $7.99.

Those using a Basic or ad-supported plans won’t have the luxury to do so. Also, Netflix is adding this feature in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. But this will expand in the subsequent months in other territories.

But, isn’t it the same plan that they had announced a few days back, just with a lot more detail?

We think it is.

Users are nowhere near taking this news in an embracing manner. They are calling out to cancel their subscription and it will be a bigger trouble for Netflix than merely password sharing.
