Netflix Testing Cheaper Plans For Indian Market

Netflix India is testing out cheaper streaming plans. They are currently accessible to select few ‘new users’ on the app randomly.

Netflix currently offers four subscription plans in India. They all differ based on the accessibility of Netflix on various devices. They are all monthly plans with the cheapest one coming at rupees 199. That plan is only available on mobile.

The rest of the prices are 499 (only one device/screen at a time), 649 (only two device/screens at a time), and 799 (4 different devices/screens and HD).

For the first time, Netflix is now getting into quarterly, half-yearly and yearly subscription plans, according to the latest buzz. They all have the rupees 799 per month as the base price. With that in place, three months plan comes at 20 percent lesser cost (Rs. 1919), six months is 30 percent lesser (Rs. 3359) and lastly the yearly subscription would become 50 percent cheaper (Rs. 4799, as supposed to the current Rs. 9588).

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings recently revealed how massive the potential is for OTT platforms in India. Netflix has the weakest penetration among the Indian market. The change in plans is a corrective measure to get things right in India.

We have to see when these new prices will come into effect universally or if there will be changes to them.
