Netflix Turns 25, Drops ‘The Story of Netflix’ Clip and Thanks Fans

TUDUM! Netflix has completed 25 years in the business! In ‘The Story of Netflix’, the OTT platform mentioned its origins and thanked its viewers for making it the biggest streaming platform in the world. From starting its journey with DVDs to conquering the binge-watching era, Netflix has done it all. Believe it or not, there was a time when people had to visit Netflix’s website to get a DVD. It’s crazy how time changes.

The newly released clip opens with a voiceover, “Wanna watch a story? It’s a good one. When Netflix arrived 25 years ago, the ‘net looked a lot like this, and the flicks looked a lot like that.” We see images of Windows 98 and DVD players appearing on our screen. “And then, hey, Netflix shows up.”

Like the clip says, Netflix couldn’t maintain the business just by selling DVDs only. The evolution of the internet forced them to change their strategy and introduce people to the world of streaming. Logos of some of the best Netflix shows like Black Mirror, Narcos, Orange Is The New Black, Grace and Frankie, Lady Dynamite, Love, The Crown, and many more also pop up in the clip. Additionally, the footage shows people following unique trends and posting them on social media. Do you remember the “blindfold trend” that became globally prominent due to Sandra Bullock’s Bird Box? We kind of miss those days!

Netflix’s flagship shows include Stranger Things, Squid Game, Money Heist, Bridgerton, Lucifer, 13 Reasons Why, The Witcher, Ozark, and many more. We cannot even imagine Netflix’s existence without these gems. Wait! Did we just call ‘13 Reasons Why’ a gem? Oh, God! What have we done?

Netflix is currently available in more than 37 languages and 190 countries. In 2007, it stepped into the world of streaming. Despite losing thousands of subscribers in the last few months, the streaming platform ended this year’s second quarter with nearly 220 million subscribers.
