Netflix has disclosed the release date of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. It is the sequel to the director’s first Knives Out film (2019). The long-awaited sequel will hit the streaming platform on December 23, 2023.
Apart from unveiling the sequel’s release date, Netflix also dropped two official images from the film. In one of the images, we can see Johnson explaining a scene to Janelle Monae. And the second one features the entire cast sitting around a large table with the protagonist, Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), saying something important. Maybe he revealed who was the culprit this time in that scene. Who knows?
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will first come out at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. In March 2021, Netflix fought hard to buy the rights to two Knives Out sequels at a staggering $469 million. This scenario transformed Johnson’s franchise from theatrical into streaming. The original 2019 film turned out to be a massive box office success, earning more than $310 million globally against the $40 million budget.
Daniel Craig is the only cast member that is making his return as Benoit Blanc in the upcoming sequel. It means the fans will get a spiritual sequel this time. The remaining cast consists of Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will release on Netflix on December 23 this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
