2019 sci-fi horror drama ‘The Platform’ has been one the most successful and popular Spanish films in Netflix history, ranking fifth in the non-English Film Top Ten category with 82,800,000 views. The sequel was much awaited and Netflix has finally unveiled a teaser and release date for ‘The Platform 2’ and it couldn’t get more exciting.
The teaser launched today begins with a body wrapped in a white cloth falls down into what seems to be a bottomless pit. Things get brutal when someone who’s hiding on level 21 eats what he/she wasn’t supposed to. The gruesome visuals that follows are not only intriguing but disturbing as well generating an ominous feel.
As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?
Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia who also helmed the first part, ‘The Platform 2’ stars stars Milena Smit (The Snow Girl), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones), and Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).
‘The Platform’ (Spanish: El Hoyo) is a sci-fi horror-thriller based on a very interesting concept where the story is set in a futuristic prison which is a large, tower-style “Vertical Self-Management Center”.
In the first part of ‘The Platform’ the inmates are switched randomly every month and are fed via a platform which, initially filled with food at the top floor, gradually descends through the tower’s levels. This ultimately is bound to lead to a rebellion with people on the lower levels getting leftovers and some getting nothing.
‘The Platform 2’ is produced by Carlos Juárez, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, and Raquel Perea, from the Basque Films team. Be ready to be enthralled as ‘The Platform 2’ will launch globally only on Netflix on 4th October, 2024.
