Netflix has just revealed the cast and first look of its upcoming Indian Original series, ‘Choona’. Along with the above, we’ve also got an idea of the tagline of the show. And it seems to be – “The good, the bad and the jugaad” – as per the social media of the cast members of the show. Choona has been directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra, and also produced by him, under his banner, Flying Saucer Productions. Flying Saucer had earlier produced ‘Taj Mahal 1989’ for Netflix.
Choona has the most interesting premise at its core – it is a ‘heist comedy’! A good heist film or series is few and far between in the Indian content space. So it figures that a heist comedy in Hindi will be an outright riot for digital audiences in India. Going by the tagline of Choona, it will be an interesting story headlining the Indian quirk of ‘jugaad’. And jugaad in a heist—that’s something worth watching out for, that’s for certain!
The synopsis of Choona states that it is a heist comedy-drama in which an unlikely group of people band together to take down a common enemy—a corrupt politician who has wronged them—using jugaad as their only weapon.
Choona has an exciting central cast, made up equally of veterans and exciting upcoming actors. The supremely talented Jimmy Sheirgill is the lead protagonist of the show. He’s worked in several OTT projects earlier (Rangbaaz 2, Your Honour), but this is his first with Netflix. Vikram Kochhar (Sacred Games, Kesari), Aashim Gulati (Tuesdays & Fridays, Hostages), Gyanendra Tripathi (Gabbar Is Back, Romeo Akbar Walter, Raat Akeli Hai), Monica Panwar (Jamtara), Niharika Lyra Dutt (Paatal Lok), Chandan Roy (Panchayat), Atul Srivastava (Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Stree) and Namit Das (Wake Up Sid, Aarya, A Suitable Boy) make up the rest of the cast. With this cast and the aforementioned plot — Choona promises to be one hell of a comedy ride!
Netflix hasn’t announced any release date for Choona yet. Here’s the first look of Choona, released today by Netflix –
