Netflix Will Soon Not Play On This Gadget

If you’re using an old Amazon Fire TV device to watch Netflix, you might soon run into a problem. Starting June 3, Netflix will stop working on some of the earliest Fire TV products. This includes the first Fire TV box, the original Fire TV Stick, and the Fire TV Stick that came with a voice remote. These are devices that came out more than 10 years ago, and Netflix says they’re just too old to keep up with the latest updates.

Netflix has already started sending emails to users who will be affected. If you’re not sure whether your device is one of them, there’s an easy way to check. Just open the Netflix app on your Fire TV, go to Settings, then About, and look for “My Fire TV.” If you see a message or error code like R4, R12, or R25-1, your device is likely no longer supported.

Amazon says if your device is one of the old ones, you might be able to get a discount on a new Fire TV Stick. So, it’s worth contacting Amazon customer service to ask. While it’s disappointing to lose access, the good news is Netflix will still work on all the newer Fire TV devices.

Technology changes fast, and sometimes that means saying goodbye to older gadgets. If you’ve been holding on to your Fire TV for years, this might be the right time for an upgrade so you can keep enjoying your favorite shows without interruption.
