The Indian film industry is increasingly getting into the hairs of the Indian Air Force. After Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Soorarai Pottru, Netflix Original film AK Vs AK is the latest film industry product to rile up the venerated Indian Air Force (IAF). And what has got the Indian Air Force see red is the quirky trailer posted by Netflix and the film’s star Anil Kapoor on their social media handles.
Anil Kapoor can be seen wearing the Indian Air Force uniform in the almost 2-minute trailer of the upcoming Netflix film AK Vs AK. He’s also seen mouthing the choicest cuss words on Anurag Kashyap’s face, along with behaving in an erratic, boastful way. He spouts the C-word (the Hindi cuss word ch****a, for the uninitiated) several times in the trailer, getting the Indian Air Force all ruffled up.
In response to the AK Vs AK trailer, and Anil Kapoor’s shenanigans in it, Indian Air Force tweeted this afternoon on its official Twitter account, ticking off Netflix, Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor in no uncertain terms. It tweeted,
“The IAF uniform in this video is inaccurately donned & the language used is inappropriate. This does not conform to the behavioural norms of those in the Armed Forces of India. The related scenes need to be withdrawn”.
It went on to tag the official Twitter handles of Netflix India and Anurag Kashyap in its tweet.
Several Twitter folks responded to IAF’s tweet, by clarifying that Anil Kapoor is not playing an Indian Air Force officer in the film, but a Bollywood superstar. And the IAF uniform is just a costume on a film set. A lot of people, however, sided with the IAF Twitter handle, decrying Bollywood stars for maligning the Indian Armed Forces.
Neither Netflix, nor the stars of AK Vs AK, Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, had responded to the Indian Air Force tweet till the time this story was published.
