Netflix’s Andhaghaaram, Riding High On Expectations! But Will It Match?

By Binged Bureau - Oct 31, 2020 @ 11:10 pm

Netflix‘s upcoming supernatural thriller Andhaghaaram has all the reasons to keep the audience intrigued and excited for it. The Tamil language movie was uncertain of it’s release when the lockdown was initiated and due to the pandemic the theatres were shut. With all movies taking the OTT route then, Andhaghaaram remained outside of the release bubble as little to no news regarding it came.

But then only last week out of the blue, the makers of the movie released an announcement for the film which confirmed that the movie will be arriving on Netflix. Now it surely has gained the audience’s attention all thanks to the trailer that was released earlier in the year by the known director Atlee. Atlee also serves as the presenter of the movie, known for his penetrating mindset of audience’s need, it will be interesting to see how Andhaghaaram will fare out.

The story of Andhaghaaram is looking interesting in itself, in the trailer we see that it revolves around a blind conjurer Selvam played by Vinoth Kishan who is the son of world famous conjurer. He has solved many cases with police which might involve a supernatural angle. In the parallel lead is a washed up cricketer named Vinod played by Arjun Das who gets obsessed with Selvam and tries to chase him and put him down. But Selvam on the other hand is much more smarter than he comes off being blind. He has the mind of a lion and stays one step ahead of Vinod.
This frustrated Vinod off who becomes furious with his failure and then, begins the deadly cat and mouse chase between the two.

Despite being associated with names like Atlee, Priya Atlee, Sudhan Sundaram, Jayaram and K Poorna Chandra, which serves as the production team or the starcast Andhaghaaram already has big shoes to fill. Since it’s a Tamil movie and that too a thriller it will be expected to be good as in the recent past we have seen brilliant thrillers from the Tamil Industry like Ratsasan or even Psycho for that matter. Kollywood is on a hit run in terms of thriller and the audience will be expecting the movie to be good enough to maintain their streak.

The movie seems similar to Psycho in certain ways as both of them had a blind hero who is much smarter than he looks and outsmarts even experienced people when put against. But Psycho though started off greatly didn’t finish that well. Still it’s a good watch. Hence Andhaghaaram has a good opportunity to go one up on it.

Andhaghaaram is written and directed by V. Vignarajan. It also stars Misha Ghoshal, Pooja Ramachandran, Jeeva Ravi, Rail Ravi and Mahendra Mullath. The movie will be arriving on Netflix on 24th November 2020.
