Netflix’s ‘Break’: Overcoming Emotional Boundaries With Dance

By Binged Bureau - Nov 28, 2020 @ 09:11 am

We are no strangers to movies based on dance. We have had a cult following of dance movie franchises called the “Step Up”. India too has its own dance franchise “ABCD”, so basically it can be said that we know a thing or two about these movies and how it always is about defeating the barriers and winning competitions and the factor of proving themselves. Well there are many hidden factors among those too, but we know the basic gist. Netflix is bringing the 2018 released French movie, “Break” on for the audience to have a better and bigger spectrum of dance movies. “Break” is coming on Netflix, this coming Thursday.

Well, the movie does have similarities in some cases and I guess almost every dance movie will have those. The movie follows the journey of Lucie, a dancer who suffers badly in a fatal accident and is in coma, when she wakes up she fears that her dreams will be shattered and she leaves the city of Paris to live in the suburbs. The suburbs give her life whole new meaning when she comes across Vincent, who she knows is a dancer but for the world, he has left dancing and living a life without his passion in it. She asks him to be her mentor and also her partner. This is when Vincent introduces her to the underground scene and the form of dance called, “break”. She is impressed immediately but isn’t able to get Vincent to leave behind his trauma or whatever is holding him to be this way.

In this new phase and new form of life, they all find meanings and try to break their emotional barriers to come forward and win life and shove those dark memories to the back of the head and let it come forward. With all this going on the forefront, there’s also a side story where Lucie tries to find her estranged father, she has no idea about.

When all these emotions are riding high, the dance will reel you in and hold you down to watch it. This beautiful movie will leave you appreciating your passion and most definitely your loved ones.
