Netflix’s Darlings: Another Feather in Alia Bhatt’s Cap?

With less than a week left from the Netflix release, Darlings is now one of the hottest buzzes in Bollywood. Let’s admit it, guys! The year 2022 belongs to Alia Bhatt! And she still has two more movies to bestow to her fans this year: Darlings and Brahmastra. Apart from these two projects, we will see her appearing in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and Tom Harper’s Heart of Stone alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan.

First, let’s focus on Darlings. Netflix dropped the film’s trailer almost a week ago. And the latter received an outstanding response from the viewers. People praised the actress for bringing something entirely fresh to them. Domestic violence is undoubtedly a sensitive issue. And to deal with a subject like that with dark humour and heartwarming moments? Only a performer like Alia Bhatt can pull this off.

Alia has separated herself from other Bollywood actresses by striking a perfect balance between big-budget projects and art films. Nowadays, she does these movies with ease. On the other hand, the majority of actresses in Hindi cinema still depend upon their male counterparts and their star power to thrive in this industry. It is a sad thing and tells a lot about the mentality of people. This scenario proves that a large portion of moviegoers still favours prominent male actors. But that’s not the case with Alia at all! She can carry an entire movie on her shoulders. Films like Raazi, Dear Zindagi, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and many more are epitomes of this case. That’s why we can expect the same from Alia Bhatt in Darlings too!

The upcoming Netflix film revolves around the daughter-mother duo of Badrunissa (Bhatt) and her mother (Shefali Shah). The former does a brilliant job at hiding the reality of her relationship with her husband, Hamza (played by Vijay Varma), from people. Badrunissa is a victim of domestic violence at the hands of her abusive spouse. It forces her to teach her husband a lesson. As a result, she abducts Hamza with the help of her mother. However, the outside world and authorities start treating the duo as prime suspects in Hamza’s abduction.

Viewers will see Badru and her mother generating unique methods to save themselves from the eyes of the cops. The film’s trailer displays Alia’s insane acting range. Apart from her, Shefali Shah also looks in fine form.

Helmed by Jasmeet K. Reen, Darlings will release on Netflix on August 5. The duo of Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah are sure to shine in the film. As far as the film’s overall performance goes, we have no other alternative except to wait for its Netflix arrival. Stay tuned for more updates.
