In recent times, few films have garnered as much attention as Monkey Man, and the American audience is having a fun time with it. However, the Indian audience won’t feel the same, but you can blame Netflix, at least to some extent.
But also, because of Netflix’s fault, the movie is gaining shape and an acclaimed theatrical run.
Netflix purchased the independent feature “Monkey Man” for $30 million during production but later dropped it without explanation, possibly due to its political undertones. Director Jordan Peele convinced Universal Pictures to buy and distribute the film after seeing it at festivals.
Dev Patel, the lead actor, was surprised to receive a call from Peele after Netflix’s decision, describing their conversation as a therapeutic three-hour session. Patel was initially reeling from the blow while working on a low-budget horror film in England.
Talking about the positives, it does offer a new series of action scenes, which is definitely creating a great buzz. And the plot has been acclaimed as well, and Netflix made a major mistake with this decision.
