Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga Ready for A Dark & Magical Journey

Netflix just dropped a bomb recently, especially for the 90s kids who loved a certain cartoon at a time. Winx Club is what I am talking about. Right now just even typing the words “Winx Club” is making me very excited, because being someone who dearly watched Winx Club and loved it with all my heart this is very special. Talks of making Winx Club into live action drama was always on the list and it started back in 2011 itself. Iginio Straffi, the creator of the animated Winx Club already had plans ready for it, but he tried with another live action drama before getting started with Winx Club.

Titled, “Fate: The Winx Saga”, the teaser reveals a lot and very little, equally. It can be well presumed that this is made exactly keeping in mind the kids who watched the animated version and who are definitely grown up now. This live action drama has elements of magic and darkness, making it a complete young-adult version of the animated show used to be earlier.

The show reflects the powers of Bloom and her group of friends who are fairies and are being put into the magical world of Alfea, their school. Almost the same premises as the cartoon but it will most definitely include some darker elements to give it the edge of being a young-adult fantasy series.

Now, as a fan that loved the animated show so much that I could skip my afternoon nap, will this be worth it? Yes and no, both. First of all a childhood classic is made into a live action drama, that itself is a win and a story that will cater to the grown up audience is an added bonus, but there’s always an issue with such remakes. First of all there has been negligence in terms of the casting, as we the fans know how different and diverse the entire group is but here we see only one black girl for the representation. Also, comics and cartoons of our era have been made into young adult series before, and we have seen how bland it becomes with the plotline. We get hyped up and most of the time, it is not able to deliver the way the fans would have wanted it.

But at this moment, we can’t be sure of anything. The series is slated to be released on January 22, 2021 and only then will the fans be able to give a verdict to how it all has been portrayed.
