Netflix is coming up with a brand new animated movie. It is called “Canvas” and will be released on the 11th of December, 2020. Canvas comes from the deal where Netflix announced the release of short animated movies and will continue to do. This is a Netflix original. Before this another short animated movie was released called, “If Anything Happens I Love You” which was centred around the very sensitive topic of “gun violence” especially in schools, that has claimed and affected many young lives.
This short film is also no different. The movie is set to focus on an aged grandfather who has gone through a sudden devastating loss that made him leave his one true passion. The short film will show how he tries and struggles to get back to his passion. His passion of painting and the trailer shows him going towards a blank canvas, significant of the fact that he has lot of memories attached to it and would like to start once again for the sake of his happiness.
Netflix has sworn to show diversity through its creation and an eminent diversity can be seen oozing out of “Canvas” as it focuses on the life of a black person. Normally there aren’t many animated series that focus on the community. Netflix has been bringing a decent line of animated movies and this is one of them. Canvas will be silent film and the fact that the trailer already has been able to connect with people without any dialogue exchange is what is bringing attention to the movie.
Canvas is not the first and definitely not the last in Netflix’s list of original animated movies, but it sure does fall into the adult animation that has given rise to more sensitivity and awareness to serious topics that need definite attention from people.
Canvas will be one animated movie that will most probably be in the list of all the coming award shows that will award the certain category that it falls into. It will be one great tearjerker.
