It is said that the people who inhabit this earth are mortal, but their art is immortal. It withstands the pressures of time. It withstands the inability of people who at the given moment may not realize your worth. One of the greatest gifts that an artist can do is inspire you to become a better version of yourself, and Netflix’s Giving Voice is about that power.
Giving Voice follows the struggles and obstacles of students in the annual August Wilson Monologue Competition, which was inspired by the late writer. The show is executive produced by the likes of Viola Davis and John Legend and takes you on a fantastic journey of how art can be a great medium to not only inspire others but also find yourself and meaning in life.
Students from across the US will compete to vie for an essential spot in the August Wilson Monologue Competition which will culminate in a live performance on Broadway. Throughout this show, many celebrities talk about how August and art, in general, has changed their lives in between the scenes.
Another impactful scene is during the start of the trailer when he states the lines, “We live in a world where we forget what happened two weeks ago, and to know who you are and what you should be doing, you should know the history about us.”
It perfectly sums up the kind of message that the show is trying to put across to the viewers and should also be a motto for everyone in life who is still trying to figure out their way through it.
Giving Voice is coming to Netflix on 11th December.
